Lila Benty – Blind Faith (2025)

Lila Benty is a singer and songwriter from Paris who released a brace of singles in 2025 in anticipation of her new EP. ‘Blind Faith’ is the most recent, creating a warm cross of electronic and acoustic sounds in a song about falling in love again. Benty began taking singing lessons during the lockdown, and she released her first single on Spotify in 2021 – a dancefloor number that showcases her voice. She continues to pursue writing heart-on-the-sleeve songs in the vein of Olivia Rodrigo and Lizzy McAlpine.

Her first single in 2025, ‘Nightmares’, is a gloomy rock meditation on taking emotional risks that features distorted guitars and a melodic guitar solo. ‘Blind Faith’ comes as something of an about-face, even though it plumbs similar lyrical territory.

Verse to verse, synths balance a sleepy, almost narcotic setting of thick textures with a sparer setting featuring string tones. The acoustic guitar anchors the song at the beginning, but alternates with the changing synth sounds between quiet riffs and a gentle strumming pattern. Meanwhile, a swirling piano slowly rises out of the narcotic, dream-like setting, giving the song a nice bit of drama. This helps keep you interested in a melody that doesn’t receive a lot of embellishment throughout the song’s three and a half minutes; but the drama and increase in dynamics give the song a sense of urgency near the end that may feel like waking up (if dreams feel like everything preceding it, that is).

Benty’s voice has a nice full tone to it, and she wisely doesn’t indulge in too much breathiness. She does strain to the edge of stridency at the end of the song, which lets some of the air out of the drama. Nevertheless, ‘Blind Faith’ is a pleasant listen that wets the appetite for the upcoming EP, especially taken in the context of ‘Nightmares’. Variety is almost always a good thing.
