Luna Keller and Cloud And Thorns – Live It All (2023)

Known for bringing old-school folk to the 21st century in an elegant, sophisticated, but also raw package, Luna Keller is an old soul in new settings. When we left Keller, she hit our pages and ears with the acoustic folk single ‘Home In My Heart’, and she returns with her new song ‘Live It All’. Eager to form and retain connections, ‘Home In My Heart’ is a tribute to long-distance friendships and the experiences of “finding people scattered all over the world.” ‘Live It All’ tips its hat at international friendships as a collaboration between US-based music veteran Richard Andruska (performing as Cloud and Thorns) and Luna Keller. A cross-continental single, ‘Live It All’ embraced remote collaboration with emails and online calls; however, while the pair were never in the same room, the power of their music transcends space.

The second collaboration with Cloud And Thorns, ‘Live It All’ follows the collaborative single ‘The Best Days’. As with ‘The Best Days’, Keller’s acoustic folk design shines through in ‘Live It All’; however, Cloud And Thorns brings a harder, more upbeat blast of folk-pop with stronger beats and harmonic rhythms. On his Spotify, Cloud And Thorns notes that “the greatest form of rebellion is to make something beautiful”, and ‘Live It All’ embraces rebellion with a bold indie-folk style.

Fiery and slightly frantic, ‘Live It All’ tosses you into a kaleidoscopic swirl of sound; kind of like those anime characters who are caught up in a rush of colourful lights and dropped in a rainbow of joy. An acoustic single, the crashing drums meld in a sonic tapestry with bright lights oozing from Keller and Cloud And Thorns. It is, however, the interspersed strings and underlying percussion that add the extra oomph and obscurity to this melody.

With an affinity for writing songs that are “neither black or white, happy or sad”, ‘Live It All’ embodies the joy of hopefulness and ambition. Oscillating from dark to light in a chaotic swirl of sound, ‘Live It All’ captures everything we are and could be in a two-minute song. Keller explains, “’Live It All’ is an anthem to embracing the highs and lows in life and celebrate being alive.”
