Mark Winters – Can I Rise? (2026)
When you think of a musician rocking out on their guitar, the idea that they have a degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering doesn’t quite fit, does it? Well, that’s what you get with Mark Winters – a musician with a “rocket-scientist brain”. Hailing from the USA, Texas-based Winters, in his words, “likes taking complex things, like emotions, and expressing them in a way that’s easy to understand. Balancing my right-brained creativity with my analytical left brain…” This isn’t our introduction to Winters, but it’s been a spell since we last had him on our virtual pages. Join us as we pick up our pen – well, actually a wireless keyboard – and explore his latest single, ‘Can I Rise?’
Following his single ‘All In The Rhythm’, ‘Can I Rise?’ is a sincere saunter across an indie-rock soundscape with tinges of folk-rock clipping at the edges. Produced by John Edward Ross and Michael Shanks, the track weaves together crashing drums, a dynamic guitar, and a soothing acoustic piano in a harmonic, rhythmic melody. Vibrant and bold, ‘Can I Rise?’ is not a simple tune streaming from our speakers. No, it’s a song with palpable emotion; the kaleidoscopic sweep of music dancing across your skin as you take a deep breath and sigh with a smile.
Melodically, ‘Can I Rise?’ is a charming tune with toe-tapping infectiousness, but it’s the theme that truly gives it character. Winters explains:
“’Can I Rise?’ is a song about standing between roots and wings, and what happens when that question is shared across generations. Co-written with my son, it became more than a personal reflection. It turned into a conversation about inheritance, identity, and the paths we choose to create for ourselves. Are we shaped most by the lives we come from, or by the effort and opportunity we step into? This song lives in that space between past and possibility, between what’s been given and what’s still waiting.”
Fun, sweet, calming, and gentle, ‘Can I Rise?’ soothes the soul – the perfect way to end a tiring day.
In addition to the single, Mark Winters released an official music video for ‘Can I Rise?’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
