ReeToxA – Love Keeps Burning Still (2026)
Creating music that will make you laugh, cry, shout, reflect, but most of all rock out, ReeToxA celebrates the good, the bad and the ugly of human experiences. While ReeToxA (also known as Jason McKee) began releasing music last year, it was only this year that we came across the Australian artist. Join us as we jump headfirst into his most recent single, ‘Love Keeps Burning Still’.
With ‘The Lisa Song’, our introduction to ReeToxA, McKee captured the moment he met a girl named Lisa at a Spiderbait gig who, unintentionally, inspired him to head off on his musical journey. ‘Love Keeps Burning Still’ retains that trend toward love, romance, and the loss thereof, as he sings about his divorce – a relatable topic for many people nowadays. Penned during the Covid-19 pandemic years, ‘Love Keeps Burning Still’ ”…tells the story of McKee’s divorce from his ten-year relationship with Lee, whom he met at Munich’s Oktoberfest in 2003, and married from 2011 to 2016. Ironically, it was Jason’s relentless drive to pursue music that ultimately separated them, yet this same passion created something beautiful from heartbreak.”
‘Love Keeps Burning Still’ is, in a way, a love song of endurance, resilience and that pure love that stands the test of time, despite its inspiration lying in divorce. The vocal interplay between Jessica McPherson-Riley (the bass player’s wife) and McKee has a sweetness reminiscent of young love, but with the worldly sophistication that comes with weathered, knowing, and lasting love. Kind, charming, comfortable and familiar, listening to their duet is like watching a love story unravel in all its sophistication and vulnerability.
The vocals are moving, but there’s much to be said of the melody. Produced by Simon Moro, the track weaves together James Ryan’s guitar, Kit Riley’s bass, and Peter Marin’s drums in a sweep of soft indie-rock. Harmonic and rhythmic, it’s easy on the ears and warms your spirit as it unfolds. The stand-out feature, melodically that is, are the strings. Haunting and siren-like, but with a powerful tenderness, McKee engaged the Budapest Strings Orchestra to round off the track with a certain something-something.
Sincere, heartfelt and emotional, ‘Love Keeps Burning Still’ is a true delight. I cannot wait to hear more from ReeToxA.
