Max Edwards – Don’t Walk Away (2025)
Often compared to the likes of Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, singer-songwriter Max Edwards offers tender, warm, charming melodies that can soothe the soul while setting up to get the party started. We came across the Canadian musician in 2022 with his well-received single ‘Malibu’ when Edwards showcased his passion and dedication to creating music. Last year, acclaimed single ‘Give It All Up’ crossed our virtual desks; then, complete silence. In October 2025, Edwards broke that silence with his singles ‘Anne Marie’ and ‘Don’t Walk Away’, and now we jump into the track with bated breath.
After a year of self-reflection and rediscovery of his sound as an artist, ‘Don’t Walk Away’ is a song that, in Edwards’ words, “… represents a new creative chapter – one where I’ve taken a more experimental approach, exploring fresh textures and production styles while staying true to my core as a songwriter…” Retaining his DIY ethos, ‘Don’t Walk Away’ is an entirely self-recorded, composed, performed and produced release, showcasing his true dedication and love for music.
For me, a similarity to Ed Sheeran exists, but there is a youthfulness that is not found in Sheeran’s work – or at least his more recent work. With an anchoring drum pulsating in the background, a bold bass running across, and a soaring guitar weaving throughout the track, ‘Don’t Walk Away’ lies somewhere between indie-rock and indie-pop. Its weightiness oscillates with a laidback sincerity, all bound in a heart-rendering rush of smooth sound. While the melody itself is an elegant brush of music, it is Edwards’ vocals that enhance the vulnerability and rawness of ‘Don’t Walk Away’.
For an odd reason, I immediately thought of Love Ghost’s Finnegan Bell’s voice when hearing Edwards’ vocals. It’s off-kilter and a little rugged, but it is veiled by a vulnerable fragility holding you close while you travel along a musical path. Like reading a diary entry, you not only hear the intimacy in Edwards’ mellifluous vocals, but feel the intimacy of the track’s narrative.
So, my overall thought of ‘Don’t Walk Away’? With this and ‘Anne Marie’, Edwards highlights his growth as a musician and producer. A promise of an EP has been hinted at, and until then I will gladly continue wading through his discography. I recommend you join me.
