Hello Amnesia – What?! (2022)

Described by InPop as “a band you will not forget”, Hello Amnesia is a global conglomeration of eclectic sound. Featuring members from New Zealand, Turkey, Portugal, Wales and Northern England, the lads bring together influences from numerous countries. Known for their energetic live performances and engaging melodies, the UK-based group has played Islington Assembly Hall and Camden Assembly – but they aren’t just performers. Hitting the blogosphere, Hello Amnesia has featured on Given To Rock, In The Bucket Playlist, RGM and Edgar Allan Poets. The latest addition to their well-received discography is ‘What?!’.

Hot on the heels of their single ‘Suzy Blue’, Hello Amnesia adopt a classic rock-influenced sound in ‘What?!’. Transitioning from the high-paced alternative rock ‘Suzy Blue’, Hello Amnesia show innovativeness in their music. One intriguing element to the lads’ sound is the merging of rock with different genres. In ‘Suzy Blue’ and ‘Cute Narcissist’ we see a more energetic stance; however, ‘What?!’ is heavier, harder and more intense.

I have to agree with InPop when they note that this is a band you will not forget. Highly memorable, ‘What?!’ has an old-school classic rock style but with a contemporary edginess that is purely Hello Amnesia. Tipping you immediately into a swirl of sound, you find yourself lost in the heart-pumping, gut-wrenching vibes. I suppose this is apt as ‘What?!’ touches on frustrating relationships and demanding to know what they want from you.

“’What?!’ dives into the everyday thought process that occurs when stuck in a frustrating relationship situation that just doesn’t make sense and all you want is to be set free. It’s the storm before the calm, the first steps to freedom, the ‘I’m pissed off and not going to do anything about it just yet…we’ll get there eventually…” – Hello Amnesia on ‘What?!’
