Michellar – CROSSED (2025)

The end-of-year holiday season is filled with sentiment, sincerity, tenderness, intimacy and heartfelt compassion during Christmas; then things become upbeat, feisty, and filled with all the joyful, grinning, ready-to-make-a-new-me New Year’s resolutions. Singer-songwriter Michellar fits the bill with her moving Christmas track, The Star, and finally her fiery New Year’s song, ‘CROSSED’.

During 2025, we have seen and heard Michellar’s shifting from folk to alternative rock, country, indie-rock and Americana – each song giving us further insight into the US-based musician’s life and personality. Today, ‘CROSSED’ crosses our path, tackling the energetic side of things with a blaring feast of electronic-pop and EDM. It’s unlike what we’ve heard and expected from Michellar, making it a rather interesting way to enter 2026.

Produced by Romania-based Marius Alexandru, ‘CROSSED’ binds old-school 90s pop with contemporary electropop leanings. A kaleidoscopic flair of music, this one is ready for the dancefloor with an anthemic body-swaying, fist-pumping, breath-taking vibe; however, as much as the track grabs you by the heart, spinning you about in a passionate pull, it is also liberating and wistful, giving you that refreshing breath to spark an exciting new journey.

With Ukraine-based Lillian weaving along with her whispering, almost hushed vocals, Michellar, once again, finds the balance between raw emotion and polished elegance in ‘CROSSED’. An interesting feature that Michellar captures is expressing the theme perfectly in a song’s sound. In ‘The Star’, the reflection and warmth were felt in a folk tune. When speaking about the inspiration and engaged soundscape in ‘CROSSED’, Michellar explains:

“I got really mad at someone about a project. That encounter and exchange of emotions and words triggered this song, which actually started out as a slower song. From the intensity of that experience, I turned it into a dance song to bring the emotion out a little bit more. With music, there is an endless highway of possibilities… just like art. All you need to do is change the perspective.”
