Michellar – I cant meet you! (2025)

Singer-songwriter Michellar, also known as Michelle Bond, is an emerging artist who is quickly gaining a strong following nationally and far beyond her US borders. In her own words: “Music has been quite a journey so far…” as she not only surrounds herself with talented musicians and industry professionals but captivates audiences with personal narratives and relatable content – like an old friend giving you a big hug before sitting down and chatting over your favourite biscuits. We came across Michellar last month with her single ‘LOVE EARTH’, and today we take a gander at her single ‘I cant meet you!’

Following the well-received single ‘Dreaming’ and preceding ‘Let’s go move around!’, ‘I cant meet you!’ is a burst of pop music bound by Michellar’s obscure vocals. For me, a vintage tinge of contemporary pop exists in the upbeat, bouncy, fun-filled melody. Reminiscent of 90s groups B*Witched and Steps, there is an old-school sheen lingering in the new single; however, as much as the song oozes vintage pop, it remains relatable with its timeless flair.

Recorded at San Francisco’s Women’s Audio Mission before being sent off to Romania for mixing and mastering by Marius A, ‘I cant meet you!’ embraces the power of remote music production. In one way, the track has a sophisticated elegance and maturity, but the youthful innocence suggests something raw and intimate. Moreover, while the lyricism nods its head at the complexities of relationships, its message of empowerment and resilience enhances its intimacy. Michellar explains:

“I have had romance experiences where I just wanted to leave and get away from. This song is all about that experience, just to leave him behind, no matter what. This track is significant because I always wanted to compose a song that has a modern contemporary feel and a very unique groove.”

Sincere, sentimental, and a pleasant drag back to my teens when I sang along to B*Witched on the radio, ‘I cant meet you!’ won my heart. I cannot wait to delve further into her discography and check out what else Michellar has to offer.
