Palmfox – Destiny (2026)
With their debut single ‘Destiny’, Dutch band Palmfox are just adding to the talent that has come out of the Netherlands over the past decade.
The opening bars of this track sent my mind straight back to watching The OC back in the early 00s, which introduced me to so many bands. This soothing sound is held together beautifully by simple guitar work, flowing between simple jangly riffs and joyful bridges. It truly is a song full of warmth and happiness, which I find hard to put into words. Vocally, lead singer Jesper gives the whole song meaning with some wonderful lyricism, giving a glimpse into what self-belief can do for you along with the support of others. This song, for me, completely encapsulates the unity of this quartet and how it has fashioned such a wonderful piece of art!
A fun fact the guys shared explains much about why this single is so well put together, oozing energy and joy. Their weekly practice occurs in a barn in Ravenstein, the village that Jesper and Kevin grew up in, with both still living in cities close by. With each week, Job makes his way from Amsterdam. Commitment like this can only breed passion and ambition, whilst just emphasising the love these guys have for the craft.
Palmfox have been quoted as having a desire to produce dreamy music from strong roots, which is reflected in their heroes, from Dutch indie hero Spinvis to the warm layered sound of The War on Drugs. This, interestingly, has pushed me to finally take the plunge into exploring The War on Drugs, which is something I’ve shockingly never done and pushed me to discover Spinvis for the first time. I am going to continue to support this great act because not only have I produced a track I love, but pushed me to discover music I’d normally not listen to.
If this single is anything to go by, they are going to embed themselves in the indie-rock scene along with the likes of Pip Blom and Real Farmer, and I cannot wait to hear more from Palmfox. Until then, I know I’ll be insufferable amongst my friends, making sure they all listen to ‘Destiny ‘, and I suggest you do the same.
