Patti Zlaket – Second Chance At Love (2026)
Last year, around October or so, I discovered the singer-songwriter Patti Zlaket for the first time. I remember thinking that I was too late to the party as Zlaket was making a name for herself in the mid-1990s. Then again, considering the 2025 single, ‘Clock Keeps Tickin’’, was her re-emergence to the music scene – well, streaming-wise at least – it felt we were stepping through that musical door together; a veteran and a newbie. Today, we take another step with Zlaket, listening to her latest single, ‘Second Chance At Love’.
Following her well-received single ‘Clock Keeps Tickin’’ – the first of her original songs after a re-release of her previous albums – ‘Second Chance At Love’ is the next taste of her upcoming album, Dance Again. Recorded and produced with Tariqh Akoni and featuring an array of session musicians, ‘Second Chance At Love’ finds the line between power-pop and soft rock genres. A kaleidoscopic concoction of rhythmic drums, a bold bassline, a smooth guitar, shimmering keys, and an intriguing horn section, the track burns bright with fierce reds, shiny silvers, and blissful blues in its vibrant, vivid sonic potion – intoxicating, charming and leaving you wanting more.
Fun, upbeat, and something to dance to, Zlaket embraces the second chance of finding happiness and love. No, this isn’t exactly a song about relationships, but it does delve into the love and appreciation between two beings. Zlaket explains:
“We have a lot to learn from the natural world, and I think it’s our duty to do all that we can to cherish and protect it. I volunteer with a local shelter, and I’m constantly and consistently amazed by the resilience of these creatures. They’ve all been through so much, but their capacity for love is endless. I wanted to write a song about the experience of working with these incredible animals, but I decided that the story was best told from a dog’s perspective. My hope is that it helps bring awareness to the worldwide crisis of overcrowded animal shelters and rescue organisations.”
Sincere, sentimental and downright fun, Zlaket keeps the motion going with ‘Second Chance At Love’. If this is another taster of the new album, I cannot wait for Dance Again.
