PJD – On New Horizons (2026)
From songwriting to recording, performance and production, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist PJD brings his life to our ears through music. Also known as Paul Julian Dennis, PJD began his musical journey as a session guitarist working in renowned UK studios and performing at notable events, including Latitude and Glastonbury music festivals. Yet, while his work as a session musician is significant, it is PJD’s solo career that draws our attention. He released his debut solo album, Pride Before The Fall, in 2024, and in 2025, he released his sophomore album, Under The Radar – both met by critical acclaim and rave reviews. Today, we sit back and take a listen to his single, ‘On New Horizons’.
Self-produced, recorded, and well, everything involved in making a single, ‘On New Horizons’ is the opening track to PJD’s 2025 album, A New Religion – an album that explores diverse themes from personal loss to humanity’s obsession with wealth. With ‘On New Horizons’, the UK-based musician delves into the realm of seeking new opportunities, walking towards dreams, and always looking for that bigger, better something. He explains:
“’On New Horizons’ is about always looking at the next horizon and hoping there is something better on the other side, which is not always the case, but living in hope of this keeps us moving forward.”
Eclectic to say the least, ‘On New Horizons’ is an experimental weave of keyboards, guitar, percussion and drums. Think the obscurity of David Bowie, but with the harder, classic rock sound of… well, no real artist pops to mind as I don’t come across this unique style very often. Comfortable in the 1970s rock flavour, but curious with an odd synth-driven tone; kind of like riding a bold guitar through a tunnel of glittering keys, with the drums steadily setting an anchor as you sail forward.
Perfectly attuned to the theme of moving forward in the hope of something better, listening to ‘On New Horizons’ is a shove into the future while entwined in sounds of the past. PJD’s gritty vocals linger between an encouraging and haunting voice; one side empowering, but also an odd blip of cautiousness. He prioritises innovation and evolution of original sound rather than finding the mainstay, tried-and-tested comfort zone. ‘On New Horizons’ is a clear example of this sentiment.
