Roxanne – Inferno City (2026)
From pop and blues to rock, jazz, reggae and funk – and don’t forget classical and opera genres – singer-songwriter Roxanne is a lady of many talents. Her journey to create music and her artistry shine through her solo project. Known for her transformative sounds, commanding energy, and insatiable presence, the Canadian musician is one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts in Ottawa; however, it’s clear that this emerging act will soon become an established figure in the Canadian music scene. Join us as we dip into her discography with the single, ‘Inferno City’.
Following her 2024 single, ‘Can’t Stop This Feeling’, ‘Inferno City’ is Roxanne’s first saunter into 2026. Smiling and waving with sophisticated elegance, the self-produced tune finds a balance between old-school R&B, jazz and neo-soul. Almost like walking through a sonic forest with glittering fairies dancing about, ‘Inferno City’s synths and bold bass bring an electronic sheen in the fog. Salah Adem’s percussion builds on the wistful fog, offering clarity with a piano, but also keeping things enigmatic.
The melody is intriguing but, for me, it is Roxanne’s vocals that up the ante. Navigating the forest, her rich, warm voice takes you by the hand, sending a rush of comfort up your arm and into your soul. Not an inferno by any means, ‘Inferno City’ is not a song blazing out of control, but it’s not chilly either. Captivating and cosy, passionate music sparks in smouldering embers, prompting an emotional zeal with the surety of a milder heat.
So, what’s my opinion of Roxanne and ‘Inferno City’? ‘Inferno City’ is a soulful tune to soothe your heart and calm the moment while shining with a hidden heat. Roxanne, as I mentioned above, might be an emerging act at the moment, but it won’t be long before she’s an established musician. Highly recommended!!!
