Re:O – Reverie (2026)
Making their way across the underworld with fist and claw, tearing their path forward, a mischievous smile and hypnotic eyes twinkle in the darkness, pulling you ahead with a smouldering sense of melodic metal meets dark-pop, ReO is a force of nature ready to engulf you in its enigmatic presence. Drawing together Western and Eastern cultures, Rio Suyama (vocals and synths), James Wright (bass), James ‘Jay’ Stevens (drums), and Alex Carli (guitar) push the boundaries of modern-day metal. We came across Re:O last year with the single ‘Crimson Desire’. Today, we take a look at their new single, ‘Reverie’.
Following the melodic metal undertaking, ‘Crimson Desire’, Re:O saunter into 2026 with ‘Reverie’. Recorded and produced by Suyama and Simon Jackson, the track is a solid hard rock song brimming with a rush of powerful drums, a bold bass, shimmering synths and soaring guitar; all trapped in a bright concoction of symphonic sound. Filled with duality and not oscillating but existing with individuality and harmonic union, the guitars and synths embrace each other, creating an ambience of cold distance and familiar comfort. Raw guitar riffs float about gentle bells, while the drums find a beat reminiscent of a pulsating heart. Serene and powerful, but small and delicate, ‘Reverie’ is a tune for the empowered and the fragile.
While Suyama and Jackson showcase their sophisticated production skills, the use of Japanese lyricism, beautifully executed with Suyama’s soft, tender vocals add a heartfelt lilt to ‘Reverie’. Interestingly, the song might be scintillating in its composition, but it is the lyrical theme and storytelling that add weightiness to the track.
“’Reverie’ portrays the story of missing someone you shared every moment with after they are gone. Those who once spent time with us eventually disappear from your sight as time goes by… This song carries one wish: ‘May you always stay well’. ‘Reverie’ is not about loss, it’s about reminiscing about those we encountered in our life, the special moments shared and the hope that not only could a friendship or relationship reignite, but also the hope that those that we shared these memories with are safe, well and thriving.”
In addition to the single, Re:O released a music video for ‘Reverie’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger migraines and/or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
