Repeat – Celebrate (2025)

Borne of a need to “make something loud, fast and melodic”, the punk group Repeat finds the groove between melody and tension in their music. Straightforward and brash, but with insightful introspection, Repeat resonates with the audience on an intimate level while still having us jump about mosh-pit style. Join us as we delve into one of their more recent releases, ‘Celebrate’.

Following the well-received 2024 album Rat Race, ‘Celebrate’ is a taster to their upcoming album of the same name (set for release later this year). Recorded and produced at Studio Sickan, Malmö, with Joakim Lindberg, Torbjörn Hallberg (vocals and guitar), Mattias Belin (bass), and Johan Holmberg (drums) fuse their talents in a whiplash rush of vintage punk rock. Shoving you from one side to another in the sonic hurricane, Repeat comes at you with recklessness; however, within the chaotic bubble, there is a melodic string connecting each chord in harmonic union.

The combination of crashing drums, a bold bass and scorching guitar certainly affronts an individual with a kaleidoscopically grungy attitude, but, and this might just be me, it’s the brash vocals that strike a chord. Gritty, raw and rough, Hallberg’s voice has an up in your face, hit you between the eyes, you better pay attention now attitude. Yet, instead of feeling confronted, there is a charm as if he’s a friend who just has a louder tone than others.

Melodically, ‘Celebrate’ is a brusque pounding of punk rock music with a driving sound capturing the urgency of being in the present, forgetting past mistakes, and taking that deep breath of relief we all need now and then. Repeat explain: “’Celebrate’ is the release of energy – heavy, melodic, and forward-thinking. A song about letting go and being present in the moment, with lyrics shifting between euphoria and desperation. The sound remains raw and direct, but the production is more nuanced…”

Setting the tone for the upcoming EP, ‘Celebrate’ is Repeat in their purest form – heavy, uncompromising, direct, and brutally honest. I am eager to hear this new EP, but until then, I have ‘Celebrate’ to enjoy.
