Repeat – Nothing New (2025)

Running at a million miles per hour (or whatever you deem extremely fast), the brash abruptness and kaleidoscopic insanity of Repeat’s music tosses you about, knocks you over, and leaves you in a state of utter shock – but you adore every minute of the punk-infused madness. Already making their mark on the punk music industry, Torbjörn Hallberg (vocals and guitar), Mattias Belin (bass), and Johan Holmberg (drums) are straightforward, honest, raw and intense, while retaining a sense of inspiring reflection and introspection with the melodies and lyricism. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Nothing New’.

Following the immersive single ‘Celebrate’, the Swedish trio keep the ball rolling with a blast of vintage punk in ‘Nothing New’. The second single from their upcoming EP, Celebrate, ‘Nothing New’ retains the brusqueness of Repeat, binding crashing drums, a bold bass, and scorching guitar in the soundscape. Produced at Studio Sickan, Malmö, with Joakim Lindberg, the single is a blast of retro punk with each element demanding attention; however, an odd soothing or sense of collectiveness lingers through the tune, so you feel pushed about but also held in a realm of togetherness.

While ‘Celebrate’ explored the significance of being in the present and forgetting past mistakes, ‘Nothing New’ is a view of today as stagnant, repetitive, and mundane. The band explain:

“The song is about that feeling when everything starts to sound like recycled noise – politics, media, even music. ‘Nothing New’ is our way of breaking free. Angry but honest. We didn’t want to overthink it – just hit record and let it out.”

Punk is always that burst of music where you breathe a sigh of relief within the urgent insanity. Repeat deliver this, but simultaneously offer clarity to the issue, making it more than an infectious yell and fists pumping in the air.
