Serena Kaos – Live Again (2022)

Serena Kaos – one of the hottest emerging artists to hit the London music scene in a while. Based in the UK, this Portuguese native moved from Lisbon to London to pursue her dream of being a musician; and, boy, it’s going well. While Kaos is new to our eyes and ears, she is already building a loyal following on the ground and across the globe. Featured on Sinusoidal Music and various playlists (including iHeart Radio), Kaos is making a stand as a rising star. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Live Again’.

Hot on the heels of her debut track ‘Shout’, Serena Kaos once again proves that the DIY approach to music production is not dead with ‘Live Again’. Written, recorded and produced by Kaos, ‘Live Again’ is a well-textured compositional masterpiece combining elements of indie-folk, dream pop and alternative pop in an ambient haze. Soothing and soft, the melody sets you adrift on a glistening sonic river; however, the obscurity of the track leans toward melancholic nostalgia. Synth-led, but with a strong merging of guitar, drums and piano, Kaos finds the delicate line between organic and electronic in ‘Live Again’.

While I mention a tinge of nostalgic melancholy in the track, the song is actually one of hopefulness and empowerment. Kaos explains that ‘Live Again’ is “…both alternative and pop, both soothing and igniting, talks about becoming a new and happier self with each day as if it was the only day of our lives…”

Harmonic, sincere and sentimental, there is a haunting relaxation about ‘Live Again’. The melody takes you on a journey and Kaos’ vocals bring a deep sigh of relief as you let go of all your pain and frustration. This is my introduction to Serena Kaos and I cannot wait to see what else she has up her sleeve.
