The Lunar Keys – Pure As Your Protocol (2025)
Bubbling over with nervous energy, with confidence and enthusiasm to hit you between the eyes with a hard-hitting “we’re here, join the fun” attitude, The Lunar Keys are always a whirlwind of music. Eagerly delving into the profound, underlying, sort of underbelly grittiness of reality and life, JC (vocals and bass), Steve (guitar), Lexi (keys) and Dom (drums) focus on aspects of connection, transformation and the constant search for meaning. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Pure As Your Protocol’.
Following the well-received singles ‘Dreams Are Never Spoken’ and ‘Bleed’, ‘Pure As Your Protocol’ is a soothing yet hard-hitting blend of alternative rock with a hint of 90s pop-rock stylings. Produced by award-winning producer Brendan Dekora – known for his work with Foo Fighters, Muse and Nine Inch Nails – ‘Pure As Your Protocol’ weaves crashing drums with a scorching guitar, dynamic bass, and shimmering keys into a brightly coloured wave of sound. One of those tracks that showcases sophisticated and elegant production, but can be as raw, gritty and vulnerable as possible.
Bound in a harmonious melody, each instrument supports and embraces the other like friends holding hands and twirling about. The group’s camaraderie shines in ‘Pure As Protocol’, resulting in a united symphony where they invite you to join the dance. It’s one of those immersive songs that you can sing, or rather scream along to, finding pure relief and solace with each note. Yet, while the melody is mellifluous and enchanting with an easy-on-the-ears alt-rock sheen, its lyricism brings weightiness to the track.
Diving into that underbelly of society, The Lunar Keys tackle the relationship between digital technology and non-technology or raw human analogue. The Lunar Keys explain: “’Pure As Your Protocol’ is about the tension between control and chaos, heart and code, human and machine. The clash between technology and emotion, data and desire…”
As with their previous singles, The Lunar Keys pledge to donate £1 to a charity. In this instance, the first 250 reviews or airplays of ‘Pure As Your Protocol’ will be donated to Mind UK – a charity committed to improving and creating awareness of mental health in the UK.
