The New Citizen Kane – METALLIC (2026)
From a mask to a mirror, The New Citizen Kane is a London-based singer-songwriter who began his musical journey with a myth, a persona, a mask for something bigger; however, several years later, the persona is now a mirror reflecting the artist’s life, experiences, and being in its totality. Sauntering through varying degrees of pop, The New Citizen Kane captures flowers from each style, drawing together a bright sonic bouquet of dream-pop, electronic pop, and synth-pop. The latest addition to his bouquet is the single ‘METALLIC’
Instead of releasing a new album, The New Citizen Kane explores his transformation through PSYCHEDELIKA Pt. 2 – four interconnected EPs, each exploring a different emotional and narrative arc. ‘METALLIC’ leads into the first arc, FREE TO FEEL. Delving into the themes of identity, awakening, and questioning reality, ‘METALLIC’ captures the moments of metamorphosis. The New Citizen Kane explains:
“The song came from a place of surrender. It’s about those moments where instinct wins… those moments when you stop overthinking and allow yourself to feel. The metallic shine of neon lights, the rush of possibility, attraction, creativity, freedom. It’s about stepping outside your own limitations and trusting where the moment takes you… freedom to exist as yourself, freedom to love openly, freedom to stop apologising for who you are…”
Self-recorded and produced, ‘METALLIC’ is a kaleidoscopic wave of synth-driven music. From the smooth synths layering a chilled-out foundation, to the beat pulsating in the back like a pounding heartbeat, ‘METALLIC’ not only gives you the sensation of being in a shimmering sonic whirlpool. It is a palpable breath of fresh air with every chord tingling your skin, flowing through your veins, and bringing a feeling of freedom and liberation home.
This isn’t my introduction to The New Citizen Kane, but it is certainly one of the most memorable songs to hit our ears. Highly recommended with a big smile on our faces!
