Track of the Day: Franxie – Fucking Around (2025)

Dancing across the edge of duality, singer-songwriter Franxie brings audiences a contrasting oscillation between dark and light, then and now, peace and war in her melodies. If you take a glance at her with green hair and grunge gear, you might decide she bears the brand of a pop-punk or at least pop-rock youngster; you should never assume. Traipsing across the realm of folk music, her emotional music is both soft as a dove’s wing and sharp as a tack. Rhythmic and mellifluous, but with an affronting underbelly that has you singing along and finding solace, while still poking the bruise that made you wince. Join us as we delve into Franxie’s debut single, ‘Fucking Around’.

Marking her first step into self-made music after years of silence, ‘Fucking Around’ unpicks the vulnerability and fragility of humanity with delicate intricacy. It’s true, the tune holds to a hearty folk sound with a flick of country peeping from the background. Yet, as much as there is a toe-tapping heartiness to the track, Franxie is not fucking around with her profound lyricism. Catching personal experiences and intimate narratives, listening to ‘Fucking Around’ is like reading a diary entry or taking a walk through Franxie’s head as she divulges complex situations and feelings. She explains:

“This song is about procrastination, wrong turns, and breaking what was already broken just to breathe again – I did what I had to do to leave what was suffocating me. It’s me accepting that, coming to terms with it, and finally breaking free. Just finishing this song myself is huge – it proves I’m capable and can finally move on with my own music.”

Lyrically, Franxie speaks plainly about inner turmoil and discovering self-worth with lines like: “don’t want to keep holding on/may as well hold a grenade and go about my day”. She truly unpacks the frustrations of finding oneself in toxic situations that you just can’t seem to step away from. However, and this is a major however, despite her vocals brimming with raw emotion that holds onto your gut, the song is overall one of empowerment. A light burning with resilience and strength slices through the gruff vocals and guitar-driven arrangement, embracing both yearning despair and optimistic hope.
