Track of the Day: Kent Olsson – Just Tonight (2026)

With over 40 years of experience and collaborations, songwriter, producer, composer and photographer Kent Olsson is a veteran artist in the music industry. Creating music for film, theatre and various musicians, Swedish Olsson roots his music in percussion, but drives it by emotion. He shares that “…Music, to me, is more than art, it’s a dialogue. A shared emotional experience. A symphony of shared passion… waving tales with every note.” While you might have heard one of his compositions on film soundtracks, such as The Loss or Not Ready, we are delving into one of his original singles, ‘Just Tonight’.

An international collaboration spanning two continents, ‘Just Tonight’ was composed, penned and produced by Olsson in Sweden, mastered by Cath Blomkvist in Sweden, with additional recordings from Zaeli in Sardinia, and the vocals delivered by Josh Paulino in Brazil. As a song that doesn’t require persons to fit a mould, but rather tailored to accentuate characters, ‘Just Tonight’ might lean towards a pop-flavoured tune, but the rock-inspired tones perfectly capture the gritty ruggedness of Paulino’s voice.

Something I could imagine on Eurovision, pumped by bold synths, crisp drums, a soulful slip of piano, and twinkling percussion, ‘Just Tonight’ is… well, simply put, one banger of a tune. It offers raw vulnerability in the pop meets rock attitude, yet there is something defiant, resilient and powerful lurking in the arrangement. For me, the stand-out feature is Paulino’s vocals: raw but rich, vulnerable but bold, fragile but tough, the touch of melancholy and delicate intimacy lost in honey-soaked soulfulness.

A song that will stick in your head, send chills down your spine, and take your soul on the desperate journey of desire and yearning, ‘Just Tonight’ is memorable. Yet, it is the sweep of lyricism that truly unpicks the heart of the track. Olsson explains:

“… ‘Just Tonight’ is about choosing the moment over the promise; the kind of connection that feels real right now, even if it won’t last. The lyrics sit in that specific emotional territory: two people caught between desire and caution, intimacy and impermanence. It’s a song about the beauty of temporary, honest night; the risk of wanting more than you can control, and letting a memory be meaningful without needing it to become forever.”
