Track of the Day: MASSIVE – SHOW ME THE WAY (2025)

The brainchild of Ghanaian musician Enock Okai Mensah, MASSIVE brings us the “hiplife” life straight from his African roots. Already oozing confidence with his enthusiastic energy, his musicality breathes life into a blending of Afrobeat, dancehall and hip-hop sounds. Now, he only has a single release to his name, so this is as much our introduction to MASSIVE as it is yours; however, we’re eager to delve into his debut track, ‘SHOW ME THE WAY’. Take a deep breath, close your eyes tight, and… here we go!

While ‘SHOW ME THE WAY’ offers whispers of hip-hop, it is far more than a layer of rap meeting pulsating, bold beats – it leans further into the hip-swaying, dance-along-with-us side of things. Dancing through the realms of Afrobeat and reggae, MASSIVE immediately captures his audience with a toe-tapping, soul-stirring, smile-inducing vibe of kaleidoscopic joy. The rhythmic pulse of percussion travels along in harmonic union with a soaring guitar, leading to a palpable sense of laid-back tranquillity.

As if arriving with the warm summer weather, ‘SHOW ME THE WAY’ is a bright, refreshing, welcoming wave of rich music. Born and bred in South Africa, so it’s not quite Ghana, Afrobeat music always makes me smile as it draws on African roots; this is the case with MASSIVE. In one way, MASSIVE showcases the simplicity of raw music and its ease to incite positive vibes. On the other hand, there is an intricate interplay of instrumentation and MASSIVE’s vocals feeding the chill ambience, as well as offering an organic structure to the mellifluous melody.

For me, the melody is tender, bold, and enchanting, but it is MASSIVE’s vocals that seem to up the ante. Smooth and soothing, warmth exudes from each note and, in its immersive nature, plays out like a friendly conversation and dance with an old friend. This is only the beginning of MASSIVE’s sonic journey, and I am eager to hear more from this emerging talent.
