TRUV – You (Acoustic) (2026)
Blending real, raw emotion with universal, personal stories in passionate music, TRUV represents authenticity, originality, and an intimate honesty. Hailing from Singapore, Lynn Dresel and Derrick Ong began creating music a few years back; their first release in 2021 (according to Spotify). Since that debut, ‘Out Of Time’, 2021’s album, 1, and the latest single, ‘You (Acoustic)’, TRUV have turned heads, earning a reputation for an engaging, emotional and resonating duo. This is our introduction to the pair, so join us as we delve into their most recent release, ‘You (Acoustic)’.
Following the single, ‘Power Steer’ – a song that was the first release since 2021 – ‘You (Acoustic)’ continues TRUV’s saunter into 2026. Recorded and produced by Ong, it shifts from the heavier, hard rock-filled ‘Power Steer’ to something calmer, softer, and more soothing. Created in a home studio in a single day, the song has a folk vibe that, oddly, keeps a sense of rock music but veils it with folk-inspired ambience. While the track may be lighter, it also carries heaviness in the theme and lyricism. TRUV explains:
“This song was written for Lynn’s mother, just before she passed on. It was a song about her mother’s roles in life, her personality and her essence. The song is meant for personal healing from the loss of a loved one, and the band hopes that listeners would find healing if they find themselves in similar situations.”
Simplistic and barebones, Ong’s acoustic guitar builds a solid melody across which Dresel’s vocals seem to tiptoe. Rich and bold, but with the vulnerability of nostalgia and grief, her voice has a way of unpacking human fragility while veiling a sense of comfort and warmth. It’s as if you know this is a sad moment, but beneath everything, a small light flickers.
‘You (Acoustic)’ might drag me back to the 1990s music-wise, but TRUV embraces universal themes to resonate with all generations. This track peers into your heart with cinematic grace and taps into pain while keeping hope alive. Sincere, sentimental and honest, I highly recommend TRUV and cannot wait for more.
