EyBand – To The World (2026)

‘To The World’ reads as an open letter to the state of planet Earth as we go into 2026. It is an anthem for anyone who is pissed off with society, but there is an undercurrent that we are to some extent to blame.

Eyband are a skate-punk duo hailing from Heidelberg, Germany, and everything they do has been self-taught. Andi Naber is the mastermind behind the band. He wrote every song, produced them and contributed all the instruments and vocals. The recording was done in his bedroom. Naber’s compadre Schmali chipped in with some additional guitar parts. The growth of AI music made them think of the importance of ‘real music’, which is a little rough around the edges.

The ferocious drums have a relentless gallop, although they adopt a nice change in the chorus. There is a lovely, subtle bass which you can hear during the verses. The guitar solo is fantastic and sounds like Brian May or Slash.

EyBand describe the track as “thinking about our own existence and our own part in this changing world as a western society”. The lyrics reflect on the hardships people are facing today. The opening line is, “Thank God our brain is capable of a trick/ It blurs out headlines we refuse to pick”. This, to me, is not wanting to pay attention to the drama which is going on in the world; effectively, burying your head in the sand because that is easier.

“I know this world is full of shit/ No doubt we are all complicit”, EyBand proclaims on the chorus. This is how people in positions of power like to blame the “average Joe”, instead of accepting the responsibility themselves. However, there is also a feeling that we have caused a lot of the problems ourselves, “We’re burning down the plank we walked onto”.

EyBand sound like their contemporaries, such as Green Day and Blink 182. They display great instrumentation throughout. There is also an acoustic version of this track that works quite well. ‘To The World’ is taken from the album Eyeciddental Masterpieces, which was released in November. EyBand make convincing skate-punk that sounds like it could’ve been made in the 90s or 00s. They pay homage to that era, whilst still packing a punch for the modern day.
