Anthony Benjamin – A Year From Now (2023)

“The world is mad, then there’s music…” – this is the simple but profound artistic vision of singer-songwriter Anthony Benjamin. Focusing on storytelling and personal connections with audiences, Benjamin’s music has a vulnerable quality with a hint of fragile intimacy. He began his musical journey in 2020 and, since then, has reached listeners on a global scale with coverage from YMX, Pop Passion Blog, Info Music, Illustrate Magazine, Pop Hits, iHeart Radio and various others. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘A Year From Now’.

Following his well-received single ‘Christmas Time Again’, Anthony Benjamin moves from the joviality of the festive season to the cathartic expression of inner turmoil in ‘A Year From Now’. Retaining his signature synth-pop style, nostalgic flair flutters throughout the new single’s melody. In fact, a strong comparison can be made to the 1980s band A-ha with soothing vocals travelling along a synth-based pop river. Interestingly enough, while the initial theme of ‘A Year From Now’ is self-doubt and uncertainty, the jovial arrangement strengthens a sense of reflective hopefulness adding an extra bounce to your step.

Influenced by the likes of Owl City, Phil Collins, Ben Rector and John Mayer, UK-based Anthony Benjamin draws together the power of Collins and the joy of Owl City in ‘A Year From Now’. What I find intriguing is how a naïve whimsy exists in his music but alongside a sophisticated elegance making the tracks, particularly ‘A Year From Now’, both innocent and mature.

Sincere, sentimental, honest and empowering, Anthony Benjamin shares his single ‘A Year From Now’ with the masses. My one complaint is that it was too short. I cannot wait to see what other comforting, enthusiastic and enchanting music this talented artist has for us.
