Binmen – Talking To Robots (2026)
With a reputation for energetic, confident, engaging performances – those where you feel the music pulsing through your veins – Irish group Binmen win hearts with their powerful music. Describing themselves as “post-junk”, Ryan McDonald (vocals and guitar), Gavin O’Shea (guitar), Tadhg Byrne (bass), and Sebastian Wong-Cotter (drums) bring the intensity of old-school post-punk, shrouded in the raw passion of alternative rock. Following their 2024 single, ‘Gossip’, the Wicklow foursome return with the single, ‘Talking To Robots’.
Recorded and produced by Rohan Kelly and Al Quiff, ‘Talking To Robots’ is a rambunctious, brash, crashing sweep of music hitting you straight between the eyes. Scorching guitars weave, swoop and slice in the melody, while a bass boldly keeps in line. The drums have a way of crashing and pounding, but are also an almost anchoring element in the melodic concoction. Add the gritty, punk-esque vocals, and ‘Talking To Robots’ seems ferocious, chaotic and urgent.
One aspect I enjoy about ‘Talking To Robots’ is the way Binmen bring it to life, making it more than just a song but an experience. You can feel the throbbing, heart-grabbing twirl about in the hurricane and lose yourself nature that I believe has earned Binmen their reputation for outstanding live shows. Each of the instruments presents an abrupt individuality, yet it all weaves together in a united rhythm.
So, what’s my overall opinion of Binmen and ‘Talking To Robots’? Not a song for the faint-hearted, ‘Talking To Robots’ is the tequila chaser after several vodka shots; something you probably shouldn’t drink considering the hangover you know you’ll have in the morning, but it’s worth it. Live in the moment, have some fun, and enjoy the zealous flame that is Binmen.
