Chroma Noir – Endless Highway (2026)

Chroma Noir. Literally, the name combines “chroma”, the vivid saturation of colour, with the French term “noir”, meaning “dark” or “blackness”. Visually, it’s a high-contrast of black and white; musically, well, we have the Chilean Chroma Noir. Binding the vibrance of synth-pop electronica with an underlying broodiness of darker post-punk sounds, Chroma Noir is eclectic, innovative, and obscure. The enigmatic duo was formed in late 2024 in Santiago, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Mario Castro and vocalist Mauricio Solari, and reached our ears earlier this year with the well-received ‘Black Rain’. Come with us as we jump into the kaleidoscopic new single, ‘Endless Highway’.

One aspect of Chroma Noir is the intertwining of vivacious lyricism and narratives with shining, though gothic-tinged, sounds. In ‘Sacrifice’, the pair dipped a slide guitar in a pool of post-punk/synth-pop. They followed ‘Sacrifice’ up with ‘Stay Forever ’- a nostalgic wave of Depeche Mode. With ‘Endless Highway’, Castro and Solari shift further toward a hard rock vibe within the gothic textures.

Produced by Nicolas Arce, ‘Endless Highway’ has a mature polish to the track, yet that slip of darkwave meets hard rock breathes with vulnerability, and an almost unpacking of human fragility. Castro’s synths veil the track with a haunting wistfulness, as well as a steady, anchoring beat in the background. Yet, while the melody is intriguing with its dark flush of music, it is the guitar that leads the rock-driven flair of ‘Endless Highway’. Joined by metal guitarist Gabriel Hidalgo, his scorching guitar simultaneously drives the single with a tantalising skin tingle and soothes the burn with rhythmic riffs.

Unlike previous material that was more synthwave than hard rock, ‘Endless Highway’ shows Chroma Noir’s full-bodied musicality. Solari’s vocals saunter through the mystical, musical fog, but it is the concept that lures a person. Instead of finding a destination of emotional experiences, ‘Endless Highway’ is all about the drive – the night-time wandering where no destination is required, only music.
