Eddie Cohn – Weight Of The World (2026)

With a Tom Petty song lyric wriggling about his brain, singer-songwriter Eddie Cohn takes a new look at life, considering that “Most things I worry about, never happen anyway.” It’s not necessarily a personal quote, but a mantra that many of us can adopt in this high-speed, constantly moving, never-sleep-or-relax reality. With his new single, ‘Weight Of The World’, the US-based musician delves a bit further into the realm of overthinking and over-stimulation in a technology-driven society.

“We obviously live in a world that is so fast-paced with non-stop news feeds, social media feeds, and an overwhelming amount of information. I am supportive of the technology we have all been gifted with, but, of course, I think a lot about the emotional impact these devices have on our minds and our ability to relax. I wonder if the constant hum of info and news feeds is too much for our brains to handle. Can we go anywhere without being pummelled with a notification or a new thread of information? The hum is always there.” – Eddie Cohn on ‘Weight Of The World’

Aiming for a barebones production and sound – possibly to enhance the need to slow down and take a breath in today’s world – ‘Weight Of The World’ is “…mostly just guitar, bass, vocals and drums” Joined by Brett Farkas (electric guitar), Dan Lutz (bass guitar), Jake Reed (drums and percussion), Phil Peterson (cello), and Cohn on acoustic guitar, keyboards and piano, the single has a mellifluous wave to the melody; soaring and singing one moment, dipping into a sparse mix of piano, guitar, drums and cello. For me, the cello adds sincere calm amidst the 1970s rock-tinged tune.

Perhaps this is me dipping a little too much into analysis, but I like to think that this drag back to yesteryear – with the harmonic concoction of instruments and rich, gruff vocals – is a quick nod to living in a simpler, less digital world. Happy and smooth, and less of the up-tempo chaos available today.

In addition to the single, Eddie Cohn released an official music video for ‘Weight Of The World’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
