FireBug – No Return (2022)

Are you looking for a single that traverses the entire space-time continuum while creating a new rock sound? Well, you are in the right place because this is exactly what ‘No Return’ by FireBug aims to do. Through the merger of alternative and classic rock tones, the single connects the past and present while endlessly drawing you toward the future.

Through this single, Juliette Tworsey (vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, organ), Jules Shapiro (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, organ, synths), Joseph Noval (bass) and Matt Lucich (drums) take us all on an amazing sonic journey. This is something that the band has excelled in since Tworsey and Shapiro met through a mutual friend and started working on music together. Since then, the band has released a full-length album with another expected later this year.

‘No Return’ builds through the opening with the movement of the guitars. There is a floating feeling to the opening lines of the melody that suspend you in the middle of the space-time continuum as the vocals look at both past and present. There is a pulse of tones that create a depth to the melody forming a vibrant river of colours that sweeps you down the soundscape. The music is wonderfully unique and unlike anything else you might be listening to right now. At times, it feels like there are different melodic lines and songs trying to compete for supremacy, but they all come together for an amazing sound. The movement of the melody takes you from the floating river to soaring rock guitars that carry the lightest hints of nostalgia.

Tworsey’s vocals seem to call to you from the depths of the universe and burst with bright lights. Through her performance, your senses are filled with freedom as you leave the material world in the past and float through the abstract. While on this out of body journey, there is a sense of positivity for a future where anything is possible. The roll of her performance matches the crash of different melodic elements as she pulls you down the past, present and possibilities of the future. It is an unbeatable sonic journey that you really can’t help but enjoy.

FireBug takes you on a sonic journey through space and time as they bring positivity for the future to our ears in ‘No Return’. The music is a sweeping river of melodic tones that twirl and crash against each other for a really pleasant listening experience. Tworsey’s vocals call out to you as she draws you into the bright lights of her performance.
