Frank Joshua – Millionaire (2023)

From Senocular Media to Send Me Your Ears, Less Than 1000 Followers, Only Rock Radio and KDUB Radio, Frank Joshua has been described as “timeless” (Rock Era Magazine) and “addictive” (Sound Won’t Stop). In an interview with The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), singer-songwriter Joshua mentioned that he had left “music behind a few times in my life and it always finds its way back to me and always via the songs…” We are only pleased that music does keep finding Joshua wherever he goes, or we wouldn’t have amazing melodies to entertain us. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Millionaire’.

Hot on the heels of his track ‘Bluebell Wood’, ‘Millionaire’ is an experimental, eclectic fusion of dream-pop and indie-pop with an orchestral foundation. Electronic elements ooze from the track; however, what captures my heart is the soothing symphonic piano and strings in the distance. It is as if Joshua is finding a line between harsh pop and ethereal orchestration – a line elegantly drawn with heartfelt tenderness and sophisticated charm.

Just as the melody can hold its own as something unique and otherworldly, it is the lyricism that highlights Frank Joshua’s depth as an artist. The line I mentioned between harsh and tender is an encapsulation of the provoking lyrical content. Joshua shares that ‘Millionaire’ is “about finding love in adversity, under the harsh light of disapproval and condemnation…an exploration of the forbidden and the release from constraint.”

Touching on our human nature in a soul-stirring way, Joshua begs the question of whether you have ever desired something you shouldn’t have. This might be a slice of chocolate cake, a shopping spree, binge-watching Disney movies or, in ‘Millionaire’, the need for love in a disapproving society.
