Good Terms – Hard Call (2026)
Well, it’s summer, and what is summer without a heavy dose of pop-punk? The genre which means so much to me, so being in the midst of the resurgence we are experiencing is absolute heaven. It’s made infinitely better thanks to the influx of new bands, showing the old guard the future is in safe hands. One such band is Good Terms. Before hearing their new single ‘Hard Call’, I’d never heard them. I can honestly say I’ve not had a song put a smile on my face the way this did in a very long time.
Opening with a riff steeped in nostalgia, following in the footsteps of every great pop-punk band that came before – fast, energetic and aggressive at times – gives that timeless feel, yet with their own unique DNA flowing through it. Vocally, once again they’ve nailed the entire sound that we all come to expect from a genre which was defined by the likes of Blink 182, New Found Glory and All Time Low whilst not becoming a caricature of the “Pop-Punk Voice”.
This in itself is not something to overlook, for me trying too hard to fit the stereotype is where many acts fall, but not Good Terms. They have nailed their own sound perfectly in a way I’ve only really heard from bands like Motion City Soundtrack and The Movielife. As with most songs, it would be nothing without being lyrically sound and exploring a relatable narrative. This is where their songwriting shines, telling a story of a break-up in such a delightfully lively way.
I can’t wait to see if they head over the pond for some UK shows because they are a band that is now top of my list to catch live. Until then, I’ll be trying to catch their performance at this year’s Warped Tour when it streams on Amazon Prime later this month.
Finally, I cannot overstate how happy I am that I’ve discovered Good Terms. So much so I’ve tracked back to their 2024 record Burnout, due to the worry that if I played ‘Hard Call’ anymore I might become a victim to the overplay curse! But thankfully Burnout is much of the same, and all I’ll say is if you like ‘Hard Call’, get it on and give these guys the love they deserve.
