Gravité Fresq – Placebo Thrill (2026)

Eager to unpick human existence with a bold, synth-pop sound, Irish group Gravité Fresq paints “sonic frescoes of gloomy absurdity”. We came across this trio last month with their single, ‘Reality Is Premium’, and the blend of post-punk and indie-pop washes across in an inspiring and fluid musical flood. With rave reviews, radio airplay, and a growing fanbase, Gravité Fresq is reaching international ears from Germany to the USA, the UK to Brazil. Join us as we dive into their latest single, ‘Placebo Thrill’.

Following the single, ‘Festive Season My Arse’, ‘Placebo Thrill’ is a drag back to the nostalgic 80s synth-pop sound ala Pet Shop Boys and The Human League. Yet, while yesteryear’s pop rushes across with bold basslines and shimmering synths, Gravité Fresq adds a contemporary edge to the track, making it old-school vibes for a modern-day audience. Not as bouncy or “jump up and down with a thrilling shake” as ‘Festive Season My Arse’, ‘Placebo Thrill’ is fluid, mellifluous, and a comforting sense of ambient warmth.

The melody itself is charming, like finding yourself in a colourful sonic lake splashing your friends with its cool, refreshing water. It’s fun, anthemic and made for the dancefloor or outdoor festival; however, within the elegance and sophistication, there is a darker conceptual element. Looking at the idea of social myths and shared illusions, ‘Placebo Thrill’ is simultaneously a “cynical light-hearted roast of modern myths and alternative medicine…” and the idea of finding comfort in these illusions. Gravité Fresq explain:

“The core message is about the psychological and communal comfort we find in shared illusions, the placebo thrill, where the truth matters less than the social connection and the fact that we all believe in how good it feels.”

In addition to the single, Gravité Fresq released an official music video for ‘Placebo Thrill’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
