Gunshots or Fireworks – Open Mic (2026)

From their EP DÉSORDRE, Gunshots or Fireworks have unleashed ‘Open Mic’. Packed with driving lines, melodic flows and atmospheric guitars, this is a great track to introduce the EP as a whole. Lying beneath the alternative rock music is a tension between isolation and connection that is explored further through all the tracks of the EP.

Born from months of late nights, a commitment to create honest music and creative persistence, the EP as a whole is one you don’t want to miss out on. Recorded and released independently, it is a testament to what indie artists are able to achieve outside more traditional music industry paths. If you are a fan of alternative rock that is intense, vulnerable and dynamic, you are in the right place.

The ring of guitars and drums hits your senses from the first second, dropping you into the alternative rock sound of the band. The vocal line that enters has a mixture of smooth sophisticated production and a feeling of calling from across a stadium. This matches really well with the driving guitar lines that make you want to jump around like you’re at an open-air concert.

The power of the band’s sound is soaked into each note and word, making it a great introduction to them. While a unique style, there is something almost nostalgic to the sound, like it is reaching out to you from the peak of Jimmy Eat World. It is an easy melody to ride, while the vocals are infectious and have you singing along well before the song comes to an end.

Throughout the single, there is an echoing vocal line on the verses, like someone shouting out over a megaphone. This allows the message of the lyrics to resonate deeper into your brain as you consider what the band has to tell you. Packed into the lyrics is a tale of connection and the loss of this connection while a light is shone on the reasons for the disconnection. There is quite a lot going on in the lyrics for you to take in, but this has been wrapped up in easily engaging melodics. The chorus is catchy and you will find that it enters your mind at random times after you’ve listened to the track.
