Lark – Residue (2026)
Creating music for “people who feel everything a little too deeply” and crafting songs about that “messy space between what happened, what almost happened, and what you convinced yourself could have happened”, singer-songwriter Lark can dig deep into your brain, pull out the grittiest of emotions, and lay everything bare for audiences to ponder, consider, and glance at with hope.
Hailing from San Diego, Lark is one of those people sitting in a room scribbling away in a notebook and thinking, thinking, thinking far too much. On one hand, it makes for fantastic storytelling and cathartic artistry; on the other, it can leave a person lost in that pool of past, present, and possible future. Her debut single, ‘Residue’, delves headfirst into these intricate emotions. Join us as we wade through the sonic mire.
Recorded in California at San Marcos’ Track One Studio, then remotely produced, mixed and mastered by Nashville’s Abbey Loren, ‘Residue’ is four minutes of solid pop music. The influence of Taylor Swift and Lizzie McAlpine oozes from the track – not only in the contemporary pop tones, but also in the intimate narratives of complex relationships. When speaking of the single, Lark explains:
“’Residue’ was inspired by the strange kind of grief that can come from a connection that never fully became a relationship. Sometimes the things that almost happened can linger just as strongly as the things that actually did. I found myself replaying memories, imagining different versions of the past, and trying to understand why something so undefined could leave such a lasting impression…”
Lyrically, ‘Residue’ is a full-bodied song dipping into those odd areas of the heart and soul that don’t quite make sense. Melodically, it makes perfect sense. A tender guitar drives the song with heart-tugging tones, while a bold drumbeat pulsates in the background – an anchor in the wistful melody. The piano adds an enigmatic, haunting touch, making the song warm and comfortable but still a bit skin-chilling. Lark’s rich vocals brim with vulnerability, but also clip with hidden strength that simultaneously captures fragility and resilience.
