ICEBERG – Blood Bank (2022)

Described by CLOUT as “poignant and thoughtful…”, US-based ICEBERG has an evocative, profound and heart-wrenching sound. A shimmering gem in a mass of sonic pebbles, the US-based individual has worked with some of the top producers and musicians across England and America. During her time in London, she worked at several top studios as a producer and songwriter for bands, as well as performing at several festivals and touring across Europe as an individual artist. The latest addition to her critically acclaimed discography is the single ‘Blood Bank’.

Hot on the heels of her track ‘Can’t Forgive Me’, ICEBERG releases the soothing pop single ‘Blood Bank’. Easily compared to Florence and the Machine, ‘Blood Bank’ has a contemporary pop sound with a dream pop tinge; however, eclecticism is seen in the harmonic arrangement. Bringing a vintage piano and guitar charm to the synth-inspired tune, ICEBERG finds the line between classical soundscapes and softer, modern-day beats.

One of the more intriguing aspects of ICEBERG’s style is that she captures emotions, particularly vulnerability, in only a few chords. Intense and intimate, there is a heartfelt chill in her poetic lyricism that oozes over to the melodic instrumentation. 90% of any iceberg lies beneath the waters and ICEBERG explains how this is similar to creating music – “I write to trick my brain into telling me how I’m feeling…to express things that are difficult to speak out loud. Growing up, my favourite feeling in the world was listening to an artist say something I’d felt but couldn’t articulate”

In my opinion, ICEBERG effortlessly captures emotions in her work; however, there is a slight haunting that could be the mystery of what is not being articulated. I highly recommend her and her song ‘Blood Bank’ to anyone.
