Imelda Gabs – Reckless (2022)

Described by international music blogs as “…naturally talented…” (Rising Artists Blog) and “…the reason why pop music never gets stale…” (Amnplify), singer-songwriter Imelda Gabs brings a fresh spark to contemporary pop in her unique sound. At age 14, this songstress had her live debut at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels performing with her late father, jazz pianist Doctor Gabs. Since then, Gabs has shared the stage with artists like The Roots, organist Rhoda Scott, drummer Vic Jewel Pitts and Lianne La Haves. She has also won awards for music videos of her singles ‘Alter Ego’and ‘Fallen Angel’ (Prague Music Video Awards, International Music Video Awards, International Sound Future Awards). The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Reckless’.

One year after releasing her critically acclaimed single ‘Alter Ego’, Imelda Gabs shares her spine-chilling new song ‘Reckless’. Boldly stepping outside genre lines, Gabs brings a unique, eclectic and completely original sound to listeners. Unlike ‘Alter Ego’, ‘Reckless’ takes a leap to more simplistic styles with a minimalistic arrangement. The orchestral swell of acoustic piano belies Gabs’ haunting vocals leaving you with an icy, stark melody; however, there is also a kaleidoscopic quality in the simple sound.

Along with the intriguing melody, Gabs showcases her innovation and depth in the poetic lyricism. Exploring human vulnerability, ‘Reckless’ is a song “about how reckless one can be when in love, the fear of letting go”. Sincere and sentimental, the complexity of this theme is woven into the intensely intimate melody.

Proving that you do not need excessive instrumentation or overly theatrical arrangements to make your mark, Imelda Gabs releases her intricate new single ‘Reckless’.
