Jimmy Beedham – Trojan Funk (2026)
Taking audiences on a musical journey through funk, rock and jazz, Jimmy Beedham blends ”…adventurous musicianship and the unmistakable sound of musicians having fun.” Hailing from Manchester, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Beedham has been performing since his teens – growing, honing and polishing a boundary-skipping sound to soothe, engage and inspire. With only a single release on Spotify, it’s not surprising that this is our introduction to Beedham, although I’m certain he’s already built a reputation for confident performances and compositions. Join us as we delve into his single, ‘Trojan Funk’.
Produced by Beedham and John Dagnall, engineered by Dave Speakman, Gaz Duprey and Chris Taylor, mixed by Taylor and mastered by Pete Maher, ‘Trojan Funk’ is an instrumental sonic sweep back to the days of George Benson. John Dagnall’s bold drums keep a steady beat like a backbone to the full-bodied single. John McMillan’s bass guitar seems to work along the track with a silky tone, while Beedham’s guitar dances along the melody – sweeping, swerving and tantalising listeners.
‘Trojan Funk’ is not merely a tune; it’s an adventurous dance through a kaleidoscopic tunnel. On one hand, the tune has a hyped feel with an energetic tempo, but it also has a chilled-out, sexy, silky vibe. A lull about midway seems to calm everything, as Neil Edwards’ keyboards hum. A few beats later, the hushed tone slips away to another toe-tapping, head-bopping, slink of your shoulders.
Sophisticated and polished, but retaining this odd sense of innocence and vivacity, ‘Trojan Funk’ lifts you from your armchair straight into a live jam session. You not only see the excitement of the players and the music wafting through the air, but become part of an adventure where no words make sense, only music. Recorded live, it makes sense that the energy of a show reaches you, and you can hear the camaraderie of the musicians – it’s as if they instinctively know what the other will do without even asking.
Having grown up listening to George Benson, ‘Trojan Funk’ really hit a nostalgic chord. With the promise of a full-length album later this year, I cannot wait to hear more from Jimmy Beedham.
