Emily Coupe – Firefly (2026)
A bright smile, big brown eyes and the nice girl next door charm, Emily Coupe appears to be really sweet and, for lack of a better word, nice. However, there’s an impish mischief simmering beneath the surface. Hailing from Australia, Coupe came across our virtual desk with her music. Having opened for Chris Isaak, playing numerous shows across Los Angeles and South Bay, and quickly gaining a reputation for engaging, exciting music, Coupe is turning heads. Join us as we jump into her most recent release, ‘Firefly’.
On the heels of her single, ‘The One’, ‘Firefly’ is a solid contemporary pop song with a Latin flair woven through the track. Produced by Maxey-Carpenter Creative, Coupe reminds me of artists like Mandy Moore and Miley Cyrus – the same energy and allure. A bold beat paces the track, while percussion seems to shimmer along the melody. Soothing and gentle, you find yourself soothed by the tune; then the Latin guitar dances across. By no means does this guitar break the chilled-out vibe. No, it merely brings a bit of a spiciness to the track while retaining the soulful enchantment.
Melodically, ‘Firefly’ has a sophisticated, polished tone, and that is only enhanced by Coupe’s vocals. Sweet and light-hearted, her dulcet tones are infectious, leaning strongly into that quintessential pop style. Rich and full-bodied, it’s easy to sing along and enjoy the song; however, there seems to be something entirely innocent lingering in her voice. On one hand, you feel united exuberance, but the other side holds a youthful vulnerability. Influenced by the likes of Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves and Ariana Grande, ‘Firefly’ shimmers and sparks with the intensity of hard-hitting pop musicians.
With her artistic thumb in various creative pies, Emily Coupe is a filmmaker, actress, model, and musician. We’re interested in her music, although you shouldn’t discount her films, and it’s been a nice lull into a pop world. This is my introduction to Coupe, and I am eager to go through her discography to hear more. Highly recommended!!
