Johnluke – Nervous (2026)

So cool they named him twice, Johnluke is a massive personality with a soft voice, sweet smile, and that undeniably suave Irish charm. The cheeky wink that makes you grin, while you know a mischievous rambunctiousness that is nothing but trouble lies beneath the slick surface, and you don’t give a damn because his music is too lovely. Earlier this year, we spoke to Johnluke about his EP, Comical Romance Vol. 1, reviewed his single ‘Denial’, and looked toward the horizon with eager anticipation. Today, the Galway native waltzes across our speakers with his latest single, ‘Nervous’.

Maintaining that noted leaning toward Mumford & Sons, Johnluke’s folk-rock tone rolls through ‘Nervous’; however, a heavier, harder-hitting sweep of pop-rock crashes down, giving it a bit of sass with a deliberate stomp. Produced by Jessie Chestnut, with mixing by Dave Skelton, the track brims with pounding drums, a bold bass, and a soaring guitar, simultaneously taking you on a sonic rollercoaster and dancing along in a harmonic melody. I find this duality particularly intriguing as it tugs on your heartstrings, piquing your interest, while holding your hand with a comfortable smile of understanding and relatable connection.

Melodically, ‘Nervous’ is confident and powerful, yet has an underlying delicacy that enhances its lyrical intricacy. Delving into the complexities of relationships, the single is a soundtrack to that moment of rejection, dismissal, and “oh, hell, is it really coming to this” thoughts. Johnluke explains:

”’Nervous’ was written straight after a night out where a friend set me up with a girl who I felt was completely out of my league, only for her to reject me immediately. It explores how rejection can quickly spiral into a lack of confidence and even a sense of madness when trying to find a partner.”

The first track from Johnluke’s upcoming Comical Romance Vol. 2, ‘Nervous’ is a song of confidence and elegance, not necessarily making you nervous, but rather increasing the anticipation of the new EP.
