Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard – Travelin’ Heart (2026)
Vintage yet contemporary; innocent and vulnerable, yet mature and confident; rock-flavoured but mostly leaning toward old-school Americana and folk, Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard is that band “…that your folks would call “pretty good actually” after four beers”. Led by Netherlands-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joseph Turner, Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard is a collective bunch of musicians quickly making their name as an intriguing band that you totally have to recommend and try at least once. We came across the rotating group of collaborators a couple of months ago with their single, ‘A New Moon’. Join us as we sit back and listen to their most recent release, ‘Travelin’ Heart’.
Retaining the Americana flavour of ‘A New Hope’, ‘Travelin’ Heart’ seemingly sets a defined sound for Joseph Turner & The Dudes Of Hazard; however, just as there is similarity, ‘Travelin’ Heart’ adds another dimension or element to the country-driven melody. Not necessarily softer, but definitely with a smoother flow, the new single is the song you have blasting while on a road trip with your hair whipping in the wind and a smile on your face, embracing the care-free air.
Recorded and produced across the United States, ‘Travelin’ Heart’ is representative of that cross-country freedom and passionate wanderlust in its formation. Live drums were recorded by Yannick Bovens, with Turner’s acoustic guitar hitting up at his home studio. The pedal steel was recorded by Keenan Schuck in another studio, adding a unique, organic and varied attitude to the solid tune. One interesting aspect is the mandolin soaring across that Turner learned how to play for this track.
Chilled-out and languid, ‘Travelin’ Heart’ captures the escapist nature of travelling; it’s not only the physical pull but the emotions felt. Turner explains:
“This release is rooted in the idea of travel as both a physical and emotional escape. On the surface, the song is about the love of being on the road and the freedom that comes with movement and distance. Underneath that, it also reflects a deeper inner journey of letting go of stress, heaviness, and the things that weigh you down in everyday life… The writing was shaped by the feeling of needing to step away from everything familiar/heavy in order to reset and gain perspective and hope.”
