Kath & The Kicks – Sleep (2026)
With a growing reputation for high-powered, energetic, confident live shows, UK group Kath & The Kicks have a loyal following that continues to grow. While their gigs might win people over, their singles shouldn’t be discounted. Turning heads beyond their UK borders, Kath Edmonds (guitar and lead vocals), Tony Harrison (bass) and Matt Larkin (drums) have received international acclaim, radio airplay, and are described as “punk rock at its finest”. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Sleep’.
Produced by Tim Hamill, ‘Sleep’ follows the 2025 ‘Wild Side’ with a crashing burst of sound. Slightly heavier, Kath & The Kicks move into the realm of hard rock meets melodic metal with ‘Sleep’. The crashing drums are met by a heavy bass that keeps the beat beneath Edmonds’ scorching guitar. Somewhere between Skunk Anansie and Evanescence, listening to ‘Sleep’ is like walking through a dark sonic forest – eerie trees on each side with devilish pixies peeping from the background. It’s chilling and somewhat haunting as guitars soar overhead; however, there is a strange, calming mystique exuding from the track.
Melodically, the instrumentation is powerful, but Edmonds’ vocals lead the single. Rich and honey-soaked, yet clipped with vulnerability and haunting, she walks along like an enchantress heading to Avalon. Moreover, the lyricism and theme hold poignancy, not leading you to a particular interpretation but allowing you the freedom to find your own path. The band explains:
“As with all our songs, ‘Sleep’ is here to speak to you in the way that you hear it. Every listener brings their own experiences, and that’s where the music finds its purpose. ‘Sleep’ reflects on the resonance of what has passed – the unanswered questions, the contemplation of truth, and the weight we carry long after the moment has gone. Whatever ‘Sleep’ means to you, that is the right interpretation.”
