Maria Pellicano – Cover Me (2022)

When in the middle of an internal struggle, you can easily feel overwhelmed and think there is no way out. Maria Pellicano is here to guide us to the path of light in such trying times through the tones of ‘Cover Me’. Through the single, she considers how trusting and believing in something bigger than ourselves can cover the feelings of helplessness with hope, strength and courage.

Through the reflective movement of the single, Pellicano takes us on an internal journey to push back the walls we face. Drawing on her passion for music and the skills she has honed over the years, she weaves a thread of her own struggles into something much greater. Over the last 16 years, Pellicano has worked as a singing teacher, helping others find their musical voice while bringing stories of hope to the world through her own.

‘Cover Me’ uses a rather dramatic piano movement in the opening to grab your attention. The stormy ocean feeling to the piano movement is bolstered by the electric guitar that calls out from within the surrounding mist. The melody perfectly creates a soundscape packed with fog that you are unable to get out of, which is reminiscent of internal struggles. As the chorus carefully comes in, there is a gentle lifting of some of the fog in the soundscape. The rise of instrumentation that comes builds a feeling of tentative strength. The injection of folk-rock tones crashes against the shores of the melody sweeping you up in the movement to feel the inner strength infused into each note.

As you are placed in the foggy soundscape by the melody, Pellicano’s vocals bring a reflective flow. Through the opening lines of her performance, she uses amazing imagery to bring the pressure of internal struggles to life. It is her performance that really parts the fog of the soundscape as she sends shivers racing down your skin in the chorus. Through the chorus, she turns to something bigger than herself to give her the strength to rise out of the quagmire of dark internal emotions. There is a plea through the second verse for the strength that bolsters a sense of empowerment deep in your chest. It is a really powerful and motivational movement that leaves you feeling stronger for having heard the single.

Maria Pellicano lights the path of strength, courage and hope through the powerful movement and pleas of ‘Cover Me’. The melody forms a foggy soundscape bringing internal struggles to sonic glory. Pellicano’s vocals are powerful as they part the fog of the soundscape and lay the path of light before our feet.
