Whether it’s the end of a significant relationship, a medical diagnosis that hasn’t hit home just yet, or the passing of a loved one, grief is challenging. Moreover, it doesn’t just affect those directly involved in the situation, but also those surrounding individuals, a leading drive in this song. Join us as Mark Cee takes us through a journey of grief in his new single, ‘How You Left Me Still’.

The impetus for the song was the death of my father-in-law and my mother-in-law’s reaction in the days and months following. Following his 2025 album, Ghost Talk Show, ‘How You Left Me Still’ is a self-composed, recorded and produced track created in Mark Cee’s “home studio in my den”. Taken from the upcoming LP, It’s Me, Mark Cee, the track is acoustic-driven, and not just vocals with a strumming guitar as we originally imagined. An odd intersection of melodic simplicity and instrumental intricacy exists, making ‘How You Left Me Still’ simultaneously barebones and complex.
Weaving guitars with haunting strings and an immersed flute – to enhance the emotion – Mark Cee captures the rawness of grief, but also the soaring nature of reflection. For me, listening to the track, particularly the gruff, obscure vocals, is like having a conversation with a grieving son or widow. You sit at the kitchen table, he starts singing and humming, and you feel an intimate connection that sits with you.
Sincere and sentimental, this is a grand introduction to Mark Cee. I look forward to his upcoming album.
