Miss Kill – Desire (2026)
Sauntering through the realms of alternative rock and grunge, Miss Kill may be a pair of young, fresh-faced ladies, but there is far more to them than good looks. Produced by Steve Hewitt, ‘Desire’ follows the forceful grunge track, ‘Under The Influence’, bringing the tempo down, veiling their energy, and adding a subdued heaviness to their sound. Far more intense, powerful and, well, not exactly in your face but definitely attention-drawing, Felicity Jackson’s drums crash while Alannah Jackson’s guitar scorches and soars.
Creating an atmospheric vibe brimming with palpable tension in the emotional soundscape, ‘Desire’ can appear suffocating, but it’s in a good way. Instead of leaving you lingering along the edges of the emotive music, Miss Kill drags you directly to the centre, where you fall into the hypnotic sound, lose your mind in a kaleidoscopic wave, and find yourself lost in the band’s mystique.
Melodically, ‘Desire’ can simultaneously soothe and unnerve you in its soft but intense music. Add the lyrics, executed brilliantly in dulcet, haunting tones, and ‘Desire’ becomes weightier. A song about the complexity of ending relationships, ‘Desire’ is a track that “sits right in the tension between heartbreak and hope. Built around the sting of loving someone who keeps pushing you away while still holding onto their past… It’s a song about realising you can’t stay stuck in someone else’s past, even when your heart hasn’t caught up yet… a gripping release for anyone who’s ever tried to let go of someone who won’t fully let go of them.”
While Miss Kill released their debut EP, Don’t Tell Me Twice, in 2023, this is my introduction to Felicity and Alannah Jackson. Based on ‘Desire’, I’m ever so pleased I came across the pair. Highly recommended and definitely a band to watch.
