Moon Construction Kit – Right Across The USA (2026)
Not one to be caged in a particular genre or box, Moon Construction Kit flirts with indie-rock while sauntering through various realms of pop, psychedelia and power-pop. A couple of months ago, singer-songwriter Olivier Cornu graced our speakers and slipped into our ears with the dream-pop-filled single, ‘Down The West Coast’; a song with laidback grooves, a tranquil vibe, and a heart-warming feeling of enjoying the moment. Today, we come across Moon Construction Kit’s latest single, ‘Right Across The USA’. Will it stand up to the previous single? Come along and see (or rather hear).
Produced by Cornu, with Rogan Kelsey (mastering) and Guy Britton (mixing), ‘Right Across The USA’ is another banger made for long road trips from California to New York. Alright, it’s not necessarily a song made for riding across the USA, but it is perfect for those moments when you drive along in your car, let the sunshine and breeze in the window, and enjoy being right there in the present.
A kaleidoscopic concoction of drums, bass, guitar and keys, Moon Construction Kit keeps the pace in a harmonic weave of music. The drums pulsate in the back like an anchoring element in ‘Right Across The USA’. The bass plods along, while the guitar sweeps from soaring highs to low dips, and the keyboard brings twinkling mischief to the track. Almost four minutes of bright, shining music that can get you twirling about the room but also leaves you singing along in your comfortable armchair, chilling to the smooth melody.
As always, Cornu’s lyricism adds weightiness to full-bodied songs. He explains: “’Right Across The USA’ is a track about connection and separation. Beneath that drive, there’s a distance fuelling nostalgia for the American culture I grew up on.”
So, does ‘Right Across The USA’ meet expectations and surpass ‘Down The West Coast’? I’m not too sure. It certainly carries the road-trip joy of Moon Construction Kit’s music, but I’m not sure it stands out entirely. I can say with certainty that both tracks will be on my playlist, and I thank Cornu for that.
