Nikki Roger – Democracy Manifest (2026)

Working without any real master plan, singer-songwriter Nikki Roger’s music is, according to him, “no big message or final answer… just figuring things out through music…. to explore sounds, ideas, and unfinished thoughts… while it’s still happening.” Boundary-pushing and heartfelt, Roger’s brings listeners a refreshing, authentic style; however, his melodies retain a strange familiarity, making it completely new but silently comfortable. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Democracy Manifest’.

Adopting an entirely DIY approach, ‘Democracy Manifest’ is Roger putting everything he is into a moving melody. The track has a rushed, upbeat tempo, giving off a sensation of being in a race. The crashing drums, bold bass and soaring guitar all heading forward with individuality; a mass of colours running alongside each other. As much as each instrument is prominent and demands attention, the race is a rhythmic, united one, where you know everything isn’t competitive, just a mire of music set to entrance. The shimmering synths seem to waver on the outside of the race, but simultaneously dance across with a silvery gleam.

Urgent and tinged with frenzy, ‘Democracy Manifest’ is somewhat manic; however, it is not a bad mania or ferocious one that would hit you in the face. Sure, the melody can inspire a desire to jump up and run around while singing at the top of your lungs, but it also offers warmth and a chilled-out vibe. I find the abrupt end a rather nice touch, ending it all with a final full stop.

Melodically, ‘Democracy Manifest’ is an interesting song, but it is the lyricism that adds weight. Roger explains:

“’Democracy Manifest’ is… built around fragments of Jack Karlson’s iconic 1991 arrest speech. What started as a strange, almost funny moment became a song about ego-driven leadership and the noise around it… a critical look at leadership today, not in a preachy way but from a simple observation: too many decisions are still driven by ego, and people feel that.”
