President Street – Tell Me Brother (2022)

Described by The Daily Express as delivering “vibrant and entertaining performances” where they “kept a wanting crowd more than happy”, the eclectic duo President Street is known for their high-paced, engaging gigs. Building a loyal following with sold-out UK and European tours, Pete and Ruby are definitely gems within a sonic pool of pebbles; however, it is not only European audiences that are astounded. Featured in international press like Music News, Fame Magazine, Wonderland, Original Rock, Notion Magazine, and various playlists, the pair are becoming a global phenomenon. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Tell Me Brother’.

Following their well-received track ‘Heal’, Australian President Street slather pop sounds with a robust old-school funk vibe in ‘Tell Me Brother’. The melodic arrangement of dynamic drums and powerful guitars builds a toe-tapping foundation on which we sprinkle Ruby’s soulful vocals. Interspersed horns and keyboards enhance the funkiness of the tune bringing a bold, rich quality to the already intriguing funk sound.

Showcasing their innovativeness as artists, President Street shift from the stark pop meets RnB sound of ‘Heal’ to the vibrant, full-bodied melody in ‘Tell Me Brother’. Yet, while their melodies have a genre-defying sense, the real power lies in the complex lyricism. ‘Heal’ is about accepting hurt, regret and the pain of loss, whereas ‘Tell Me Brother’ challenges society instead of a reflective sentimentality behind the song.

“We want to challenge the idea of what it means to ‘be a man’ and the concept of masculinity. We want to direct our message that, rather than being about violence and toxicity, true masculinity is about being strong enough to lead through compassion and understanding and using strength to lift people up rather than hold them down.” – President Street on ‘Tell Me Brother’

Sincere, heartfelt and passionate, President Street raise their voices about true and not toxic masculinity in the single ‘Tell Me Brother’.
