Project D.S.F – Transformation (2026)
As part of the extended play ‘Uncharted Networks’, Project D.S.F has released the captivating single ‘Transformation’. This instrumental track incorporates elements of post-rock and electronica while hitting all the right notes of orchestral and symphonic music. The blending of these sounds not only creates an immersive soundscape, but it also forms a narrative journey that doesn’t need words to resonate.
While the music is a fantastic blend of genres and sounds, the defining aspect of ‘Uncharted Networks’ is the pairing of tracks with videos. The videos depict spacecraft traversing deep space and encountering unknown worlds. The combination of the music and videos is a wonderful showcase of the audio-visual style of composer, producer and arranger Salaar Masud, who is the brain behind the sound.
The symphonic tones come through from the first note of the track as you are drawn into the deep pulse of the opening. The electronic notes twinkle over the piano line like stars glittering in the night sky. The layering of the different styles has been handled perfectly through the soundscape, with each having a distinct sound while coming together for a steady movement.
That opening symphonic line continues in the low levels of the track while the keyboard line rests in the middle, with the electronic notes coming and going like a gentle light. Overall, it is a really chill soundscape that you can sink back into as you close your eyes and take a journey through space. As the music progresses, the easy flows give way to something that niggles for your attention like someone tapping your shoulder to make you look in a certain direction.
The transition of the melody is excellent, as it all moves together in a cohesive story without any disjointed aspects. While this is a full instrumental over 6 minutes long track, it offers a story that you can clearly see in your mind. Of course, your interpretation of the story will depend on what you see, but you can feel the constant movement forward and the exploration of new things.
The easy flow of the story is enhanced when you watch the accompanying video. Through the video, you follow spacecraft as they traverse the worlds beyond ours. They fly through space on the easy lines of the melody, only to discover something new with the arrival of the sonic transitions. The audio and visuals match each other perfectly and will have you sitting back in your seat mesmerised by both.
