Raventador – PORRM (2021)

Instead of sitting back and complaining during these Covid-19 lockdowns, German rock group Raventador have been stoking the flames of creativity. Founded in 2019, the band has a relatively new status; however, they are hitting the rock music scene with an explosive bang. Ranging from indie-rock to classic rock with some blues undertones, the foursome is bringing the sound of yesteryear to the new century. We are happy to introduce you to the band (if you aren’t already acquainted with them) with our review of ‘PORRM’.

Following their debut EP From Ash and Embers, Raventador re-release the classic rock single ‘PORRM’. Unlike the more weighty track on From Ash and Embers, the new release has a cleaner, harder and more powerful quality to it. Combining dynamic drums and hard-hitting guitars, including a spectacular guitar solo mid-song, the single drags you into a forceful swirl of sound. It is as if you are being carried along a dark river filled with turbulent waves and you’re gasping for a breath. Fortunately, the clever arrangement of instrumentation grants you that breath of air.

While ‘PORRM’ appears to be a personal track with relevant rhetoric, it does not touch on issues like love, loss or inner conflict. Instead, Raventador uses more controversial themes and headbanging styles to “stab wounds” and force people to take accountability for “the problems in front of our own doors”. The overwhelming merging of forceful instruments with soul-stirring vocals make you pay attention to the world’s current climate, your mistakes and how if “nobody feels responsible…that doesn’t mean it’s not happening.”

Filled with brutal honesty, presented in gruff staccato, ‘PORRM’ is genuine and heartfelt, but without the lingering flow of a languid ballad. With its rough edges and accusatory tones, Raventador scratches the surface of existence bleeding through with painful truths we might not want to accept. It’s a song about acceptance, consequences, responsibility and facing grittiness we prefer to ignore. Rock at the core, but punk in the concept. I love it!

Side note: Raventador released an official music video for ‘PORRM’ that can be seen here.
