Beginning with her mum’s folk guitar on the porch, it progressed to a rummage through old vinyls and ended with a passionate flame for music burning in her soul. The person is Rebekah Snyder, and the purpose is to connect audiences by sharing intimate narratives, universal tales, and moving music. Unafraid to delve into the darker areas of reality, US-based singer-songwriter Snyder unpacks the complexities of toxic relationships, domestic abuse, and mental health, but also resilience that comes from within. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Someday Lullaby’.
Produced by Dean Miller, mixed by David Buchanan, and mastered by Alex McCullough, ‘Someday Lullaby’ is a sweep of solid country music. Aptly titled, the single has the softness, gentle, and calming aura of a lullaby. A weave of guitars entwine, creating a feel of organic elegance – James Mitchell on the electric guitar, Devin Malone on acoustic guitar, and Andy Ellison adding the country twang with a slide guitar. Eli Beaird’s bass guitar plays in the background, while Evan Hutchings’ drums delicately beat, bringing a sense of underlying strength to ‘Someday Lullaby’. Billy Nobel’s piano jumps in, enhancing the softness and flowing nature.
The song is a lullaby made for her children to hear in the future – or at least that’s part of the inspiration. It soothes the soul, calms any nerves and floods your heart with tender, comfortable warmth. Yet, just as the melody is soothing, its lyrics carry darkness. Juxtaposing sincerity and contentment with a tale of domestic abuse, Snyder creates an emotional tension that lingers after the final note. Moreover, while the tale is one of pain and struggle, it has a sense of resilience, hope and protection.
