ReeToxA – The Lisa Song (2026)

There are moments in your life when something happens, you do something, and in hindsight think, “what the f*ck were you thinking?” and “well, that’s pretty cool” – the conception of ReeToxA is something like this. In 1997, Jason McKee began writing songs at the tender age of 17 (this isn’t that something), but life got in the way, and his musical journey took a back seat. A few years later, a specific incident at a specific gig made him decide to quit university and “start the band properly”. Skip ahead to 2026, and ReeToxA has one album and two singles streaming for the world to hear. We’re about to dive headfirst into their single, ‘The Lisa Song’. Join us, won’t you?

Following the 26-track album SOLILOQUY, ‘The Lisa Song’ was inspired by that specific incident at a specific gig –“After meeting a girl named Lisa who asked to hear a song at the Forum Theatre at a Spiderbait gig, Jason was embarrassed to say he was a university student doing a Music Arts degree and a musician. Lisa asked to hear a song, and all he had were voice notes… After the gig, Jason went to get his vinyl box signed by Kram near the stage, and he never saw Lisa again…he got home and chose to start his musical journey properly.”

Produced by Simon Moro, ‘The Lisa Song’ is like listening to a buddy telling you what happened that night with that girl – a cold beverage in your hand as emotion drips from every word. Lyrically, it’s a truly personal, intimate, and tender song; however, the melody is what gives it a rock-tinged flavour. A combination of drums, bold bass, and soothing guitar creates a rhythmic vibe that makes you smile. Yet, amidst that smiling, a slice of vulnerability rides along McKee’s vocals.

Unfortunately, McKee never saw Lisa again, although he still keeps an eye out. One great thing that came from the chance meeting is ‘The Lisa Song’. Even if he never meets her again, ReeToxA have this charming tune to keep a powerful memory alive.
